ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS FOR COUNSELLING SERVICES
Sanjeev Jhamat
Registered Provisional Psychologist
(He/ Him)
Sanjeev is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who works with teens, adults, older adults, and couples across a range of mental health and life concerns. His clinical interests include anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, workplace stress and burnout, major life transitions, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and concerns related to self-esteem and identity. He also welcomes individuals recovering from Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) and clients from diverse cultural and BIPOC communities.
Sanjeev believes effective therapy requires both understanding and direction. While reducing distress is important, he also helps clients identify the patterns, beliefs, experiences, and behaviours that may be contributing to their difficulties. From there, counselling becomes an active process of developing new ways of responding, strengthening existing resources, and translating insight into meaningful changes outside of the therapy room.
His therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, structured, and practical. Sanjeev recognizes that two people experiencing similar concerns may have very different histories, strengths, circumstances, and goals. For this reason, he does not approach therapy with a predetermined formula. Treatment is individualized and developed collaboratively, with interventions selected according to each client's needs, values, strengths, and readiness for change.
His work is grounded in evidence-based psychological practice. Depending on the client's presenting concerns and treatment goals, Sanjeev draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness-based interventions, trauma-informed approaches, and Gottman Method principles for relationship work. His additional professional training includes approaches for trauma, grief, suicide intervention, behavioural change, and other complex mental health concerns.
Sanjeev completed his Master's degree in Psychology at DAV University in India and later completed additional psychology coursework through Athabasca University in Canada as part of his continued academic and professional development. His education and professional experiences across two countries have contributed to his appreciation for the ways culture, family, identity, and lived experience can influence psychological well-being. Sanjeev provides counselling in English, Hindi, and Punjabi.
Motor Vehicle Accident Recovery
Sanjeev recognizes that recovery following a Motor Vehicle Accident can involve much more than physical healing. An accident can affect a person's sense of safety, independence, confidence, relationships, work, sleep, and everyday functioning. Clients may experience anxiety related to driving or travelling as a passenger, trauma-related responses, changes in mood, pain-related distress, or difficulty returning to activities that were once routine.
His approach considers both the psychological and functional impact of the accident. Treatment is individualized and may focus on processing the emotional effects of the accident, developing strategies for managing distress, gradually rebuilding confidence, and supporting clients as they work toward meaningful re-engagement in everyday life.
Sports Psychology
Sanjeev has a particular interest in the psychological side of sport, exercise, and performance. He supports clients with concerns such as performance anxiety, confidence, motivation, concentration, emotional regulation, managing pressure, responding to setbacks, and maintaining a healthy relationship with achievement.
His approach recognizes that performance is influenced by more than physical ability. Thoughts, emotions, expectations, identity, confidence, and responses to pressure can all influence how an individual performs and experiences sport. Sanjeev works collaboratively with clients to strengthen psychological skills that can support performance while also protecting overall mental well-being.
What Clients Can Expect
Clients working with Sanjeev can expect thoughtful conversations alongside purposeful therapeutic work. He values helping clients understand what is happening, why certain patterns may continue, and—most importantly—what can realistically be done differently. His aim is not simply to provide strategies for the next difficult moment, but to help clients develop greater confidence in their ability to navigate challenges independently over time.
Sanjeev is accepting new clients beginning August 15, 2026, with appointments available Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A Message from Sanjeev Himself
What inspired you to become a psychologist?
I have always been drawn to understanding people beyond their symptoms. Over time, I realized that many individuals carry painful experiences silently, often believing they have to face them alone. Psychology gave me the opportunity to combine compassion with evidence-based care, helping people understand themselves, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. It is a privilege to walk alongside people during some of the most difficult seasons of their lives.
What is your therapy superpower?
My greatest strength is creating a space where clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and safe while also providing practical direction. I enjoy helping people connect the dots between their past experiences, current patterns, and future goals so that therapy leads to meaningful insight and sustainable change.
What values guide your clinical work?
Compassion, authenticity, curiosity, respect, and evidence-based practice guide every session. I believe every client deserves to be treated with dignity, without judgment, and with the confidence that change is possible. I strive to balance empathy with practical strategies that help clients move toward the life they want to live.
How do you define “authenticity”?
Authenticity is having the freedom to live in alignment with your values rather than being controlled by fear, shame, or the expectations of others. It means showing up honestly, embracing both strengths and struggles, and growing without pretending to be someone you’re not.
Favorite quote, metaphor, or philosophy you bring into sessions:
“You cannot change what you do not understand, and you cannot heal what you continue to hide.”
Interests or hobbies outside of work:
Outside of psychology, I enjoy strength training, walking, creating original Christian music, songwriting, reading, and continually learning about human behaviour, leadership, and personal growth. I also value spending quality time with family and my faith community.
Fun fact or story that helps clients connect with you:
People are often surprised to learn that I genuinely enjoy learning. Whether it’s reading research, developing new clinical skills, or exploring creative projects like songwriting, I’m always curious about how people grow, heal, and find meaning. That same curiosity shapes how I approach therapy, every client’s story is unique, and I believe there is always hope for growth.

His goal is to help clients strengthen relationships, gain clarity, and move through periods of change with greater confidence and resilience.
BIPOC, Cultural Identity & Immigration Experiences

He values creating a culturally responsive and inclusive space where individuals from diverse backgrounds feel genuinely respected, understood, and supported. Fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi, he welcomes clients who feel most comfortable communicating in any of these languages while exploring concerns related to culture, identity, belonging, immigration, family expectations, and life transitions.
Sanjeev's Authentic Approach:
Getting to know the person who will walk alongside you!
If you asked me who I am outside of being a psychologist, I would probably start by saying that I am someone who is endlessly curious about people, life, and growth. I enjoy conversations that go beyond the surface, I ask a lot of “why” questions, and I genuinely enjoy learning—not because I have to, but because there is always something new that can change the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.
My own story has taken me across countries, cultures, and very different chapters of life. I completed my psychology education in India before continuing my professional journey in Canada. Starting a new life in another country taught me a great deal about change, uncertainty, adaptation, and what it means to rebuild a sense of belonging. It also gave me an even greater appreciation for how deeply our culture, family, relationships, experiences, and values shape the way we see the world.
Faith, family, personal growth, and meaningful relationships are important parts of my life. I value humility, honesty, discipline, compassion, and continuing to grow into a better version of myself—not perfectly, but intentionally.
Outside of psychology, one of the biggest parts of my life is creativity. I love writing songs and creating music. There is something powerful about taking an emotion, an idea, or a story that is difficult to put into ordinary words and turning it into music. It gives me a completely different way to express myself and connect with meaning.
Strength training has also been part of my life for many years. The gym has taught me lessons that extend far beyond physical fitness: progress takes time, consistency matters more than perfection, and sometimes growth is happening even when you cannot immediately see it.
I also enjoy reading, travelling, discovering new places, listening to calm music, cooking, and spending meaningful time with the people I care about.
Although I take my work seriously, I don't believe therapy has to feel cold or overly clinical. I'm naturally warm, curious, and down-to-earth. I appreciate genuine conversations, humour when it fits, and moments when people can simply be themselves.
Perhaps one of the biggest things life has taught me is that none of us are defined by one difficult chapter. People can learn, adapt, rebuild, and surprise themselves with what they are capable of.
So if we ever meet in the therapy room, you'll certainly meet Sanjeev the psychologist—but you'll also meet Sanjeev the person: someone who values real conversations, believes deeply in growth, and understands that being human can be complicated, imperfect, challenging, and still incredibly meaningful.
