ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS FOR COUNSELLING SERVICES
Jenna Boutilier
Registered Provisional Psychologist
(She/Her)
Jenna is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who is passionate about supporting individuals on their journey toward healing and personal growth. She believes that everyone possesses the capacity for positive change and strives to help clients access their inner strengths while building the tools and strategies needed to live a fulfilling and authentic life.
Jenna completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Concordia University of Edmonton and went on to complete her Master of Counselling through City University. Jenna has worked in the mental health field since 2018 and has experience working with a wide range of populations. She worked as a Peer Support Team Lead during her undergraduate degree while also providing respite care to children and adults with disabilities. After completing her undergraduate degree, Jenna worked on the front lines of the opioid crisis, providing professional harm reduction services and overdose response support. She then transitioned into a role on a multidisciplinary team at an inpatient psychiatric facility, giving her years of experience working with numerous populations, including individuals experiencing challenges related to personality disorders, forensic involvement, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders.
During her master's practicum, Jenna supported individuals and families experiencing domestic violence. Jenna enjoyed this work so much that she continued as a volunteer therapist for an additional year following her practicum. Throughout her academic and professional experiences, Jenna has worked with a wide range of age groups and populations, including children, teens, young adults, adults, and older adults.
From a therapeutic perspective, Jenna has experience and training in modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Informed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and somatic-based approaches. She tends to base her therapeutic work within an attachment and relational framework. Jenna embraces client-centred, strength-based, and trauma-informed principles in her practice and has a particular interest in trauma recovery. Jenna has completed formal training in intensive trauma treatment, DBT, and EMDR. She hopes to complete Gottman training to expand her work into couples therapy and further specialize in sex therapy in the future.
Due to her previous experience in health care, Jenna is particularly interested in supporting first responders and other health-care professionals who may be experiencing work-related stress or trauma. Jenna recognizes the stigma that can surround professionals seeking their own support and aims to normalize therapy within these populations.
Jenna likes to incorporate humour where appropriate during her sessions and prides herself on her ability to make others laugh, even after a difficult session. Her goal each day is to make someone smile or laugh, or to do something that brightens someone's world. You can expect warmth, compassion, humour, and humility throughout your sessions.
Jenna works with an emphasis on guiding clients to understand how our bodies can carry trauma, whether through complex trauma or single-incident trauma. She believes in not just intellectualizing trauma, but actually processing it while staying connected to the present moment through safety and grounding. Jenna also enjoys helping clients foster self-compassion throughout the therapeutic process, believing that oftentimes our harshest critic is ourselves. She will always collaborate with clients to develop a therapeutic approach that feels right for them.
Jenna understands that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, and she is committed to creating a space where clients feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are. She believes that healing often begins with connection, curiosity, and compassion, and considers it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate life's challenges, build on their strengths, and work toward the life they want for themselves.
Jenna is accepting new clients as of July 13th, 2026 , and will be available for counselling bookings on Mondays through Thursday from 2:00pm-9:00pm.

Jenna’s Clinical Areas of Specialization
Addictions (Substance Use and Behavioural Addictions)
Jenna believes that addiction is rarely just about the substance or behaviour itself. She believes it often develops as a way of coping with pain, stress, loneliness, trauma, or unmet needs. Jenna works with clients to understand the role addiction has played in their lives while building healthier ways to manage life's challenges. Her approach is compassionate, collaborative, and focused on helping you reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by the struggle.
Mood Disorders (Anxiety and Depression)
When anxiety or depression takes hold, it can feel like you're constantly fighting your own mind. You may find yourself overwhelmed by worry, weighed down by self-doubt, or struggling to find joy in things that once mattered. Together, Jenna will work with you to explore the patterns keeping you stuck, develop practical tools for coping, and create space for greater self-compassion.
Personality Disorders and Emotional Regulation
Living with intense emotions, relationship challenges, or a fluctuating sense of self can be exhausting and isolating. Jenna provides a supportive space where you can explore these experiences with curiosity rather than judgment. She will work with you toward understanding long-standing patterns, strengthening emotional regulation, and creating more fulfilling and stable relationships with yourself and others.
Trauma, Complex Trauma, and Attachment Wounds
Trauma can shape how we see ourselves, navigate relationships, and experience safety in the world. Whether your wounds stem from childhood experiences, difficult relationships, or overwhelming life events, healing is possible. Jenna helps clients gently explore their experiences, make sense of survival strategies that once served them, and develop a stronger sense of trust and self-worth. She also believes that trauma can be carried within the body and works with clients to process their experiences while staying connected to the present moment through safety and grounding.
Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence
Leaving, surviving, or healing from an abusive relationship can bring a complex mix of emotions, including fear, grief, confusion, anger, and self-doubt. Jenna offers a safe and supportive space to process these experiences and reclaim your sense of identity, voice, and personal power. She focuses on healing from the impact of abuse, strengthening boundaries, and supporting your journey toward safety and empowerment.
Boundaries and Self-Compassion
Many of us learn to put others' needs before our own, leaving us feeling drained, disconnected, or unsure of our worth. Jenna helps clients develop healthier boundaries without guilt. Through working with Jenna, you'll learn to communicate your needs with confidence, trust your own judgment, and build relationships that feel more balanced and fulfilling.
The Authentic Person Behind the Psychologist
A glimpse into Jenna's story
My path into mental health and trauma recovery began after experiencing the Fort McMurray wildfires in 2016. The day the fire reached the community became the last day of my high school career. Witnessing the impact that trauma had on the people around me sparked something that has stayed with me ever since. What began as a curiosity about mental health quickly grew into a passion for understanding how people heal, adapt, and move forward after life's most difficult experiences.
As I continued through my undergraduate degree and various roles in the mental health field, I became increasingly aware of the stigma that often surrounds mental health challenges and seeking support. Rather than discouraging me, it strengthened my commitment to pursuing a career in counselling psychology. I felt that becoming a psychologist would allow me to challenge that stigma while helping people find healing, growth, and fulfillment in their own lives.
One of the things I value most about this work is that there is no single definition of wellness. I believe mental wellness looks different for everyone, and I enjoy walking alongside clients as they discover what authentically works for them. Some of the most meaningful moments in therapy are when clients begin to see themselves differently, gain a new perspective, or recognize strengths they may not have realized were there all along.
Outside of the therapy room, you'll often find me fishing, camping, at the gym, dancing, or attending live music shows and festivals. I am a huge fan of electronic music and enjoy supporting local artists in my community. During the summer months, I often volunteer at festivals providing harm reduction and mental health support. This work remains important to me because I believe people deserve opportunities to enjoy themselves while also having access to the information and support needed to keep themselves and those around them safe.
I also share my life with two sphynx cats who bring an extra special element of love, laughter, and personality to my days. I have always had a soft spot for animals and enjoy spending time with small pets, including hedgehogs, turtles, and lizards. In my own life, I believe it is important to find balance between supporting others and caring for myself. We cannot pour from an empty cup, and I strive to practise the same self-compassion and balance that I encourage in my clients.
My therapeutic approach is shaped by my natural enthusiasm, warmth, and sense of humour, which I believe help create authenticity and connection in the therapy space. I am guided by empathy, adaptability, playfulness, and open-mindedness, and I strive to create a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for clients from all walks of life. I believe meaningful growth often happens through both insight and human connection, and I find great joy in helping clients experience those "lightbulb moments" that lead to positive change. Knowing that I have helped someone feel supported, gain clarity, or even leave a session with a smile is one of the most rewarding parts of my work as a psychologist.
