(She/Her)
Fisayo is a compassionate and culturally responsive Registered Provisional Psychologist, deeply committed to creating safe, affirming, and healing spaces for individuals, couples, and families. Whether someone is navigating trauma, identity exploration, depression, grief and loss, or the layered experiences of immigration and acculturation, Fisayo brings a warm and grounded presence that fosters healing, self-discovery, and growth.
She holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Her experience spans both clinical and community-based roles, where she has supported children, youth, adults, and seniors from diverse cultural and intergenerational backgrounds. Fisayo’s professional path includes working as an individual, couple, and family therapist, as well as a program facilitator, youth mentor, and counselling program coordinator.
Fisayo tailors her approach to each client’s unique context, needs, and strengths. She integrates a range of evidence-based modalities, including:
- Narrative Therapy – to explore, reclaim, and re-author personal stories
- Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) – to deepen emotional awareness and strengthen relational bonds
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – to identify and shift unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns
- Mindfulness-Based Approaches – to build emotional regulation, presence, and resilience
- Strengths-Based & Anti-Oppressive Practice – to honour identity, lived experience, and systemic realities
Fisayo is especially passionate about supporting clients through cultural identity concerns, intergenerational and migration trauma, complex family and relationship dynamics, parenting challenges, grief and loss, burnout, and life transitions.
Clients who work with Fisayo can expect a collaborative, non-judgmental, and respectful space where every part of their story—including culture, identity, and history—is welcomed and valued. She takes the time to truly listen, walking alongside clients with empathy and curiosity as they uncover insight, strengthen coping, and move toward a deeper sense of agency, hope, and wholeness.
Fisayo believes healing happens within the safety of trusting relationships. Her work is grounded in the belief that every individual holds the capacity for growth, and her role is to provide the steady, supportive environment needed to nurture that growth—always at the client’s pace, and in alignment with their voice and values.
Fisayo has availability for the upcoming summer months and is offering counselling sessions on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

Personal Insights
What inspired you to become a psychologist?
As an African Canadian who immigrated to Canada, I know firsthand how powerful it is to feel truly seen, heard, and supported. My passion lies in walking alongside individuals who are navigating what it means to belong, reclaim their voice, or rebuild after life’s challenges.
What is your therapy superpower?
Creating a space of deep listening—rooted in compassion, curiosity, and care—where clients feel safe enough to explore what hurts and strong enough to envision what’s possible.
What values guide your clinical work?
My work is guided by the values of genuineness, empathy, compassion, and cultural humility. I aim to hold space where clients can show up in their full humanity—without needing to shrink or hide any part of themselves.
How do you define “authenticity”?
Authenticity means showing up as your whole self—messy, brilliant, struggling, thriving—and being met with acceptance, not judgment. I bring my full self into the therapy room too: sometimes soft and reflective, sometimes humorous and gently challenging, but always real.
What are your favourite interests and hobbies outside of work?
I cherish quality time with my family—especially watching TV shows and movies together. Staying connected to my cultural roots is deeply important to me, and I find joy in exploring cultural cuisine, music, dance, and community events. I have a passion for travel and love discovering the unique beauty and charm of different places. Dining out with friends and family is one of my favourite ways to nurture connection and create meaningful memories. I also enjoy creative expression through acting, which continues to be a fulfilling outlet for me.
Oluwafisayo (Fisayo) Akinyede
with her Authentic Perspective 🌿
As an African Canadian woman who immigrated to Canada, I know firsthand how powerful it can be to feel truly seen, heard, and understood. My decision to become a psychologist was deeply personal—rooted in the desire to walk alongside those navigating life’s transitions, cultural identity, belonging, grief, or moments of feeling lost or disconnected. My work is grounded in empathy, cultural humility, and a deep belief in the human capacity to heal, grow, and reclaim one’s voice.
Clients often tell me my therapy “superpower” is my ability to listen—not just to words, but to emotion, silence, and the story beneath the story. I hold space with curiosity, gentleness, and respect, helping clients feel safe enough to explore what hurts and strong enough to imagine what’s possible.
Authenticity, to me, means showing up as your full self—messy, brilliant, uncertain, hopeful—and being met with compassion instead of judgment. I bring my full self into therapy too: sometimes reflective, sometimes playful or gently challenging, always present and real. Therapy isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection, honesty, and growth.
Outside of the therapy room, I recharge by spending time with my family—especially watching movies, trying new restaurants, and sharing laughter over meals. I love staying connected to my cultural roots through music, dance, and community events, and I’m always up for a new travel adventure. I also enjoy expressing myself creatively, particularly through acting and storytelling.
At Authentic You, I feel honoured to support clients in reconnecting with their truth and creating a life that reflects who they really are. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just be willing to begin!
